Long time Serial Killer suspect and former Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke’s dalliances with his hooker girlfriend Lowrita are legendary. At the end of their night shifts Burke would meet up with Lowrita. “In ‘is squad car ‘ee lay-aid Lowrida on ‘er back. Bang! … Noooo … ‘ee went downnn on ‘er and ev-ree man she did durin’ dat long night.”
Chief Burke’s dalliances with the Mob, although lesser known were right out of Good Fellas. An ethnically diverse group of thugs aligned with both the Colombo and Lucchese families operated out of a towing business located in Ronkonkoma. Robert Spatafora owned the front called “Rob’s Pro Tow.”
They bought, cut and distributed cocaine. They also ran a traditional bookmaking operation, with bets on sporting events placed by phone; and a gambling website registered in Costa Rica. Both businesses required debt collection – thugs.
The collection thugs used their confederacy to do scores of predominately commercial burglaries throughout Suffolk. They allegedly – a point of contention – retained the services of an SCPD Cop as look out.
Some nights the collection thugs went nuts – home invasions with beatings and torture.
The cop is the one time son-in-law of my source: Octogenarian geriatric retired NYPD Detective Peter Fiorella who maintains that his ex-son in law is innocent. During his distinguished career Fiorella touched 2,000 homicide cases.
There’s a trail of at least three dead cooperating witnesses in this case. Reminiscent of what happened to the people that pulled the Lufthansa heist with James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke – made famous in Good Fellas. The Gent feared his co-conspirators were cooperators so he whacked them.
James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke has the same name as former Police Chief James “Jimmy” Burke. Coincidence?
Ultra-violent Spatafora thug Eddie Wright claimed that Attorney Paul Gianelli learned the identity of some cooperators from a cooperator. Gianelli passed these names on to Spatafora.
That’s Wright saying that in Court.
Amongst others involved is one Joseph A. Careccia. Careccia did the home invasion torturing. For some reason he pissed off Wright. Wright ordered Careccia killed twice. Both times the hits missed. One of the hitters turned cooperator – then got whacked.
Careccia ended up fleeing Long Island for Florida where he engaged in Real Estate fraud etc. He allegedly died in Arizona at the age of 42 – but he may not really be dead. That’s how the feds protect a cooperator.
Careccia lived four doors down from the then head of District Attorney Spota’s Detective Squad – James Burke.
Poor Peter
We’re interested in just one of the dead cooperators – “Poor” Peter Ghattas – a member of Spatafora’s crew.
In August of 2003 the SCPD brought Peter Ghattas in for questioning. He gave up the Spatafora Crew. Enough to lock everyone up for a long time.
On September 3, 2003 cops bring Ghattas to the Suffolk DA’s office where he signed a cooperation agreement. They let Ghattas go without police protection.
On September 24th, Poor Peter tries to act normally. He shows up for work at Rob’s Pro Tow. As long as no one at the DA’s Office or SCPD talked Poor Peter thought he’d be okay.
Ghattas is found in his SUV in the parking lot right outside Rob’s Towing. Someone popped him in the head. “Whagged. Fuggin’ mess.”
I talked to Spatafora’s lawyer – Billy Wexler. Billy says, “Hey would my client kill a cooperator right in front of his business … aint him.” Well Billy maybe he did kill him because then he could say – hey would I whack a cooperator right in front of my own business … aint me.
Oh the Humanity
On March 30, 2010, a woman (“Jane”) – got picked up on an unrelated bench warrant. Spatafora told his wife that he believed police questioned Jane about the whacking of poor Peter. On May 11, 2010, over a series of phone calls recorded on a wiretap, Spatafora accused Jane of cooperating with the police and, in graphic language, threatened to kill her.
At his sentencing the government stated that Spatafora remained a suspect in the Ghattas killing. Spatafora vehemently denied any involvement: “Hey would I whack a guy in the parking lot in front of my own business … aint me.”
The Court sentenced Spatafora to 41 months: “Words have consequences,” said Judge Weintstein, a friend of Billy Wexler’s father Judge Wexler.
So who tipped Spatafora off.
Former Police Chief Burke who at the time worked as the Chief of the District Attorney’s Detective Squad. Burke only lived four houses down from Joseph Careccia – enforcer for the Spatafora Crew. Burke lived at 2 Sammis Street in Saint James. We passed it just last Christmas on our annual Christmas light tour. Careccia lived at 12 Sammis Street. Twelve houses on the whole street. Could be a coincidence right. No such thing …
Christmas Day 2001 in Suffolk. A team of burglars do five jobs and one attempted job. At one of the homes on Apex Lane in nearby Coram the burglars find the keys to a brand new SUV. Eddie Wright wants the SUV. No one argues.
Four months later on April 28, 2002, Wright and an associate open up on Careccia from the woods across the street. One uses a shotgun and the other a pistol. They missed. They sped away in the Apex Lane SUV. The SUV is dumped. Police locate it.
Careccia testified in front of a Grand Jury. He told the Grand Jury that the same day two men tried to whack him his “neighbor” stopped by. The neighbor told Careccia where the police found the dumped SUV. He also told Carrecia when and where it was stolen. The prosecutor asked Carrecia if he knew his neighbor’s name and address. Careccia testified, “No.” End of inquiry.
The neighbor had to be a cop to know all that. The only cop neighbor was James Burke.
Jimmy The Gent
Octogenarian geriatric – suffering from Shingles – retired NYPD Detective Peter Fiorella has a theory about Burke that nobody cares about … former Police Chief Burke’s real father is none other than James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke.
I partially verified it using high quality databases – raw data.
July 5, 1931, Jimmy the Gent is born in Bronx, New York. His mother Jane Conway is a prostitute from Dublin, Ireland. No one knows who the father is. At age two social services placed Gent in the first of many foster homes where he is subjected to physical and sexual abuse. He never saw his mother again. Finally a family named Burke took him in. They gave him a good home. The Gent never forgot their kindness – he left unmarked envelopes of cash for them. The “Burke” family adopted him. The Gent took the family name.
In 1962, Burke married his girlfriend Mickey. Earlier the Gent found out that Mickey’s ex-boyfriend harassed her. On their wedding day police found the ex-boyfriend’s remains in over a dozen pieces, strewn about the inside of his car. “Fuggin’ mess.”
Chief Burke’s mother – Frances Locascio – lived in the Howard Beach/South Ozone Park mob neighborhood. She had a dalliance with the Gent that impregnated her. The Gent – for all his ferocity – did not want to anger his wife. He asks his step brother George Burke to take on the role of father for just a little while. The Gent could be persuasive.
George who is a member of the NYPD marries Frances. Chief Burke is born on October 6, 1964. By 1966 George and Frances are divorced – Chief Burke and his mother move out but still live in the neighborhood.
Fiorella points to the fact that George did not name his first born son “George.” He named him James just like the Gent. However when George remarries his first son is named “George.”
The big question: Is Chief Burke’s alleged father George Burke a member of the family that adopted the Gent? The databases support but do not confirm this. It is hard to nail down the exact location of the adoptive Burke family. It appears Rockaway Beach. I can place George Burke’s family solidly in Howard Beach – ten minute trip across the bay on the Cross Bay Expressway. This is definitely where Jimmy the Gent’s immediate family lived –children and wife.
The databases say that George is related to the Gent’s son Jesse James Burke. Jesse James Burke is a lawyer active on Facebook, a Met fan that likes to eat at a restaurant in Smithtown where Burke lives. He lives in Massapequa where LISK lived.
Whack Whack
The databases also show that George is related to the Gent’s daughter Catherine Burke. In fact the databases show that George is also related – through marriage – to Bonanno crime family member Anthony “Whack Whack” Idelicato. That’s Catherine’s husband. He’s named “Whack Whack” because of multiple high profile whacks.
If you look at Catherine’s Facebook profile you see nice photos of the Gent and Mickey in memorials that she posts. By the way Mickey’s true first name was “Frances” just like Burke’s mother.
The year that the Gent pulled the famous Lufthansa heist – 1979 – is the year Chief Burke and Frances moved to Smithtown.
The theory “holds [some] whah-der.” The one thing missing is direct evidence that Jimmy “the Gent” did Chief Burke’s mother. It explains why Chief Burke is named James – “Jimmy” and why George Burke’s first son in his new marriage is named “George.” Chief Burke constantly referred to people getting “whacked” – “three chiefs are getting whacked.” Jimmy the Gent associated with the Lucchese crime family as did Chief Burke.
I want to implore the Gent’s family not to whack me. This is Fiorella’s theory who as a detective saved the Gent’s life.
Whack Chief Burke. He started it.
The Revenge of Homo John
About a month after Poor Peter Ghattas got whacked, October 23, 2003, three SCPD detectives and Assistant District Attorney Homo John Prudenti – you remember him see – flew down to Florida with a material witness order. They brought Careccia back to Long Island.
Prosecutors do not normally retrieve thugs. But DA Spota knew that Careccia was a born rat. He would have given up Burke’s involvement. Homo John went to shut Careccia up for Burke’s lover Homo DA Spota. https://www.thezuppafirm.com/just-who-are-the-homos-a-very-maga-affair

Unlike Poor Peter, the SCPD placed Careccia in hotels for 7 months with police protection.
In return for protecting Burke – and framing Fiorella’s son-in-law cop at the behest of Burke – Careccia got five years of probation. He admitted to committing 38 violent felonies – including two home invasions, the hiring of two arsonists to burn down an occupied building and scores of burglaries. He did his probation in Florida. He continued his mortgage and bank fraud.
Poor Shannan Gilbert
The lead detective – Vincent Stephan – in the Ghattas homicide investigation is the same detective that wrote a letter to Newsday. Stephan wrote that he heard the 911 recording in the Shannan Gilbert case. He “listened to the 22 minute call.”
Stephan did not think the recording would ever be released.
Stephan stated: “Her demeanor on the tape was calm. You hear male voices on the tape, they are calm. At no time during this call was she desperate. From what I heard on the 911 call Shannon [sic] was not speaking as if she was in danger.”
Meanwhile Shannan repeatedly warned 911 operators “men are going to kill me.” She spent 22 minutes screaming “murder” in hell before her merciful whacking.
The majority of Suffolk cops make over $200,000 dollars a year. From there they earn over $300,000. Some top $400,000. They demand free coffee.
