THE SHOOTING AND BEATING OF THOMAS MOROUGHAN
On February 27, 2011 at approximately 1:15 AM Thomas Moroughan drove his taxi cab toward the village of Huntington. His girlfriend sat in the front passenger seat. He was cut off by a Blue 2008 Acura, being driven by off duty Nassau County police officer EDWARD “MERCEDES” BIENZ. Bienz was drunk. The Acura was alternatively speeding, tailgating and finally cut Moroughan off. Bienz’s wife – Mrs. Bienz – was a passenger in the Acura.
Almost immediately after, a white 2011 Infinity being driven by off duty Nassau County police officer ANTHONY “PSYCHO” DILEONARDO came up on Moroughan’s taxi from the rear. The Infinity was also speeding and tailgating before it passed Moroughan’s taxi headed North on Oakwood Road pursuing Bienz. DiLeonardo’s girlfriend Sophia Comia (so Italian) was a passenger in the front seat of the Infinity.
Now you know who the bad Nassau cops are.
Bienz and DiLeonardo stopped their vehicles as they pulled over to the east side of Oakwood Road near the intersection of Tippin Drive, both cars facing in a northerly direction.
Moroughan came upon them. He pulled to the side of the road in front of 422 Oakwood Road and stopped his cab. He rolled down the passenger side window and said words to the effect of “What the hell are you guys doing. You’re going to kill someone.”
“Get your fat ass girlfriend on a diet.”
DiLeonardo responded thusly: “Learn how to drive a taxi faggot, and get your fat ass girlfriend on a diet.”
Courtesy. Professionalism. Respect.
Moroughan made further inquiry: “What the hell is your problem.”
DiLeonardo and Bienz exited their vehicles. For Moroughan discretion got the better part of valor and his girlfriend’s honor. He proceeded to make a U Turn away from the psychotic cops in the hopes of escaping a worsening situation.
DiLeonardo snarled: “I’ll show you my fucking problem.”
DiLeonardo and Bienz charged the taxi cab. DiLeonardo – like the “Lethal Weapon” he was – drew his weapon from his ankle holster on the way. Enroute he fired five rounds at Moroughan from his .38-caliber Smith & Wesson. Bullets struck Moroughan two times – once in the left arm and once in the chest. One bullet fragmented and lodged in the rear of the taxi cab. Two bullets were not recovered. Moroughan’s chubby girlfriend is lucky to be alive.
When he got to the cab the hard charging DiLeonardo shattered the driver side window with the butt of his empty .38. DiLeonardo – this brave man – then proceeded to pistol whip Moroughan striking Moroughan in the nose and facial area breaking Mr. Moroughan’s nose. Clumsy DiLeonardo dropped his weapon into the rear of the cab.
The Great Escape
After being shot two times and pistol whipped Moroughan still managed to escape by driving to nearby Huntington Hospital.
DiLeonardo went to Huntington Hospital with some 30 police officers and detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department and the Nassau County Police Department. Also present were four representatives of the Nassau County Police Officer’s union. DiLeonardo appeared noticeably drunk slurring his words, smelling of alcohol and acting hostile. He refused to give the hospital blood or urine and no one from the Nassau County Police Department or the Suffolk County Police Department administered a sobriety test.
Meanwhile two Suffolk County Police Department Detectives – RONALD TAVARES (District Attorney Tom “Homoerotica” Spota’s primary fixer), CHARLES LESSER and ANTHONY PALUMBO (one of the Detectives that beat a false confession out of a 16 year old in the Pius case) – allegedly interviewed Moroughan as he lay in his hospital bed. Moroughan still had a bullet in his left arm and a bullet in his chest. The hospital administered a fairly large amount of morphine to Moroughan in order to ease the pain of being shot twice and pistol whipped.
Moroughan repeatedly shouted that he wanted an attorney. A member of the Suffolk County Police Department illegally stopped Moroughan’s Godmother – an Assistant District Attorney with Nassau County – from speaking with him.
Detectives Tavares and Lesser, as well as Palumbo, wrote out a statement for Moroughan to sign. It said that Moroughan had been read his rights and he had waived them. The statement also indicated that Moroughan claimed he was shot because he drove toward the police officers to run them over.
Moroughan did not read the statement before signing it because the SCPD Detectives told him to hurry so they could let him rest. He was in no shape to read. He had two bullets and a ton of morphine in him.
The statement is contradicted by all the crime scene evidence.
“Deserve” got nothing to do with anything.
Moroughan was arrested for second-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment. Only after he was arrested was Moroughan allowed to speak to his Godmother wherein he cried to her “I don’t know why he shot me … he shot me for no reason.”
Well Moroughan “deserve” got nothing to do with anything. Shoot or shut up.
This was standard operating procedure for Suffolk County Detectives – the coerced confession. Spota and his dedicated Office of Hitlerite’s prosecuted Moroughan for some three months before they dismissed the charges against him.
Spota never indicted the two Nassau County Police Officers.
Internal Affairs
Meanwhile the Nassau County Police Department Internal Affairs Bureau found that “PO DiLeonardo committed Unlawful Conduct and violated Department Rules when he engaged in a road rage incident … PO DiLeonardo committed 11 counts of Unlawful Conduct and violated 8 departmental rules.” Further “PO Bienz committed Unlawful Conduct and violated Department Rules he engaged in a road rage incident … PO Bienz committed 2 counts of Unlawful Conduct and violated 3 Department Rules.”
However owing to the fact that Nassau County Police unions enjoy the same power as Suffolk County police unions Officer DiLeonardo remained on the job earning $110,316.00 dollars in 2012. Officer Bienz also remained on the job earning $145,877.00 dollars in 2012. That’s when $145,877.00 meant something.
PBA President Sodomizes Self With Egg Plant
DiLeonardo ultimately got the axe because the Internal Affairs Report leaked out. This enraged the head of the Nassau County PBA James T. Carver who called for an investigation into the leak. Not his murderous psycho cops. Bienz remained a cop due to the power of Carver over elected officials.
Meanwhile Detective Ronald Tavares had a reported pay of $171,094 according to public records in 2021. Before Trump’s inflation really hit.
Oh yeah … the County Attorneys’ Offices didn’t want any part in trying this cluster fuck. The civil case settled for over two million taxpayer dollars. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/cabbie-gets-2m-settlement-for-shooting-by-off-duty-nassau-county-cop-in-2011/3588788/
You just don’t get what you pay for anymore with inflation. Here’s a song that sums it all up and acts as an SEO driving “back link.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFyFSS60DrQ
